I don’t even read much fiction these days but I saw ‘medical’ in its title + ‘science fiction’ and the book didn’t disappoint me. Awesome short stories written by someone familiar with seeing patients and knowing their worries and how many of them face their own mortality when getting in the rehabilitation ward. My favorite story by far was ‘Once, on a blue moon’ followed by ‘If only he had a brain’. Anca

For the first time in his life, the solitude Devlin had always sought now felt disquieting rather than calming. Stolen moments alone in the lab or at home had always been a phone ring or door knock away from disruption. But the finality of his self-imposed isolation now sent unexpected pangs through his gut. The stories: great, I loved reading them The characters: the only women in the entire collection are wives, nurses, exes, or the potential lover of the main male character. There are not enough women in each story for any of them to pass the Bechdel test. This is an interesting collection of short stories based around medical science fiction, all of it with roots in fact. Ellana Thornton-Wheybrew
