Soon Yui makes her own pilgrimage to the phone booth, too. But once there she cannot bring herself to speak into the receiver. Instead she finds Takeshi, a bereaved husband whose own daughter has stopped talking in the wake of her mother’s death.
Simultaneously heartbreaking and heartwarming, The Phone Booth at the Edge of the World is the signpost pointing to the healing that can come after.

Goodreads users review :

This book was absolutely breathtaking. “The phone book at the edge of the world” is based on a real telephone booth called the ‘wind phone’, where people call this phone (that is disconnected) to reach their loved ones who have passed on. People have pilgrimaged to this location in the city of Otsuchi to find comfort and solace to call their loved ones who have passed away, especially those affected in the tsunami of 2011. While reading this book, I felt all the emotions of pain, loss and finally acceptance and hope. Beautifully written, a story of how we remember those we love close to our hearts. Nursebookie                                                                                            rated it: 5.0 from 5.0

A brilliant story of hope and healing. I felt myself feeling calm and mellow throughout the whole book. Enjoyed it immensely! Dayangku Nuraini Wahed                                                                          rated it: 5.0 from 5.0

Loved seeing things through the eyes of someone from a totally different culture, but still finding universal truths about grief, love, and family. Gail                                                                                                        rated it: 5.0 from 5.0
